(FROM THE ARCHIVES OF THE USS ARIZONA & PEARL HARBOR REMEMBERED MESSAGE BOARD-12/6/99)

The last ship that was involved with the attack on Pearl to be put out of commission was the USCGC Taney (PG-37).  We know that that is now a museum up in Baltimore.  And we know that the old tug Hoga was last out in San Francisco serving the city then was retired and various groups were trying to get her to Hawaii or Ft. lauderdale Florida.

But my question is about the Tender Nokomis (YT-142). It was put out of service on May 1 1973.   Does anyone know what happened to this ship?  Was it scrapped?

Regards!

Chris,

Looks like it's been scrapped.

The yard tug Nokomis was not scrapped in 1973. It was placed on the Navy's disposal list for probable scrapping. It was sold into merchant service, most likely to a West Coast company, and re-named Sea Serpent. I do not know the name of the company or if it is still in service. You might check your library to see if they have "Merchant Vessels of the United States", issued annually, to track its history further.
