Hi Santiago,
Alas, the article by Mr Wolf, aka Dr, has been superceded in Stan Cohen: EAST WIND RAIN [Missoula, MT: Pictorial Histories Pub; 1981, revised 1991, corrected 1994, retitled as ATTACK ON PEARL HARBOR - A Pictorial History in 2000]. ....as well as that given above.

Hi, Jesse

I have found these serials.

Ens. M. Gonzales SBD-2 BuNo 2181 Side number 6-B-3
Lt. (jg). C. Dickinson SBD-3 BuNo 4570 Side number 6-S-4
Ens. J. Vogt SBD-2 BuNo 2160 Side number 6-S-3
1st Lt. R. Richards B-17C 40-2049 Tail number 49

I don't know Whiteman's serial.
I have list of P-40 losses, but 44PS lost 7 P-40B/C. So it's hard to determine which one was Whiteman's plane. Maybe David Aiken can help.

Oops!

A slight mistake.
44PS lost SIX P-40B/C and as far as I know, two of them were lost in taxi accident on December 8th.

Hola Janne:

Do you happen to know the correct a/c.
serial numbers for the P-40bs that were
flown by Lt. Welch and Taylor, because I came across a listing of a/c. that flew
combat at Pearl.

This list is in TORA! TORA! PEARL HARBOR,
THE AIRCRAFT AND AIRMEN DECEMBER 7TH
1941 by Don Thorpe with Ed Maloney, a
PLANES OF FLAME PUBLICATION no date.

the aircraft are:

P-40B  41-13314, 41-13316 and 41-13326
these aircraft were assigned to the 47th PS at the time of the attack.

Saludos
Santiago

Hi Santiago,
The three planes were given a "gold star" (still looking for a photo of such) for being in the air during the attack. BUT there were a LOT of P-40s in the air...

To say that ONE of these was flown by the Taylor/Welch is a problem...

The only other roster is for P-40s, P-36s, etc at "Wheeler" (including Haliewa & Bellows) in the Congressional Investigation and has a host of problems.
HTH,

i see good information, and am very thankful for it.  now a question.  is there anything online that would have a listing of a/c with numbers for the defenders?  i would like to build some of these a/c but i am having a very difficult time finding any real info.

I don't know of any off the top of my head but you might look for Scale Aircraft Modelling Colours' "Combat Colors #4: Pearl Harbor and Beyond, December 1941 to May 1942"

David Aiken identified a couple of mistakes in their work but I can not find that list at this time. I belive that the tail code for Rasmussen's plane was incorrect or something similar. Regardless, there are 25 US Aircraft profiles in this volume. Further review can be read here

Aloha Joe,
Welcome to the understanding that we just do not have info for Wheeler Field. Sigh...
