Hi,

My Dad was aboard the battleship Nevada during the attack... 50 cal gun, AA deck port side aft.

He returned to the Nevada after she was rebuilt (he's a plank holder on the USS Iowa) & spent the entire war on her.  He has such fond memories.

Dad's in his 80's and in very poor health.  I would love to find him something for Christmas from his very special old ship.  I know how happy he'd be to get something special.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Ed  :)

Ed-

Sorry I really don't have any suggestions on a gift that would be extra special. I have a large collection of mementos and artifacts from the ships and bases from that day, however, the Nevada is one of the few that I don't have anything from. Otherwise I would try to send you something.

Best of luck finding something.

What is your fathers name?

Regards!
Chris

Hello Ed,

My suggestion is to do a search on Ebay under USS NEVADA.
I collect ship and station postmarks on envelopes mailed home by soldier/sailors.
Usually Ebay will have anything from posted letters, menus, cruise books, matchbooks, ash trays, lighters, and photos of any number of ships.

You have a great chance to find an item of significance, due to the NEVADA being a capital ship.

What's your price range? There are paintings that he might enjoy.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

His name is Edward Walsh.  He started out in gunnery, after the attack he was trained as a radioman.

I've bought a few things in the past off Ebay... ballcap and a framed lithograph by Ian Hill.  He has his old ship's book and choir books, etc.

I'm hoping to find something off the ship itself.  Tall order, yeah.   :)

It's nice reading this site, I think I've read every post twice now. :)

Ed-

A few years back I came across someone trying to sell a large piece of the teak decking. Wished I had gotten that, I could have given your Dad some of it.

Regards!
