I have been unable to locate my Uncle Leonide Lemire's burial site.  I have looked on the web site for the Punchbowl with no luck.  My mother states he is buried near Pearl.  From what I have been told, his remains were not located until many years after the attack.  Who can I contact to find out when he was recovered and where he is resting? Thank you for any help you can give me.  My email is kdemers@hotmail.com.  I would like to thank all those who gave their hearts and soles so that we can live freely. Thank you and god bless!

Aloha Ken,
As with the search for family records, the burial location info should be within a military deceased's file at the National Military Personnel Records Center.

The posting on that is called "Step One" on "Families of Our Troops" forum (please see). On obtaining THOSE files, we can guide you better. Of course, "Step Two" at that forum will help sort whether he was KIA or MIA.

If you KNOW he is MIA, then there are UNKNOWNs in particular burial plots at the National Cemetery of the Pacific, aka "Punchbowl", which contain single burials or groups of burials from particular ships. Please read more at:
http://www.arizonareunion.homestead.com/graves.html

http://www.arizonareunion.homestead.com/Lost_History_Found.html

These sites will lead you to the latest in the project to identify the "Unknown" burials of 7 Dec 1941. These sites may help otherwise on burials of KIA.
HTH,
