A modeler over at SteelNavy.com posted a question asking about an odd object on the stern of NEVADA. It appears to be a flat, mostly vertical structure, most likely a screen for projecting movies on to. You can see it on the port side, just outboard of the muzzles of the #4 turret, in pictures here,  here, here,  and here (in front of turret 4).

ARIZONA is the only ship I have heard of with a movie projector and screen, but that's mainly as she was the first to get one. I think I have found a picture of a projection booth in this picture dated 1934, just aft of the port crane at its base. Might that object have been a movie screen or would it be something else?

Hi,

I asked my Dad this question.  He said that a large canvas (he remembered it being roughly 20' x 9') was their movie screen.  It was normally hung from a turret and it usually was on the bow.  During peacetime, Nevada did have a canvas tent type apparatus that could be set up on the stern to protect the men from the elements... if a rear turret was used to hang a screen.

His eyesight has failed him and unfortunately he can't view your pictures.

Thanks for your answer, and if you could, thank your dad for his service!
