I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this one, but...:

Did they ever try to right UTAH?  I have some NARA photos that purport to show such an attempt on UTAH.  I'm not so sure.  The photos are pretty anonymous as far as distinguishing ship details go, but I can post the URLs if anyone wants to see them right away (Meaning before I get an index up.)

I think I'm gonna need some help with some of those pics.

Hi Larry,
With the Utah up-side-down, say about 160 degrees down...it blocked the channel quite a bit. They rolled the ship to about 80 degrees to its present position which cleared the channel a bit.

The ship is still a cemetery which even surprises some visitors who are overwhelmed at the thought of the USS Arizona as a cemetery.
HTH,

Did not know that.  Okay, I'll index the photos as they are captioned.  Then we can open the floor for nits.

This next round is 92 photos, documents, etc.  Should be up by Monday next, but I'll need to categorize the photos when these get added.

David Aiken was kind enough to inform me of a website that features a sonar "view" of the remains of the UTAH, there in Pearl.   Check it out at:

It's quite an amazing picture.

Brian,
What an amazing photo!  Can you tell me at what angle the Utah is now (to help my frame of reference)?   I'm ashamed to say that when I was at Pearl Harbor I didn't realize that the Utah was also a burial site and made no effort to visit/pay respects at the site.  Is there a memorial there for the Utah?  Is it a place that accessible to visitors?

There is a much smaller memorial for the Utah, and it is open to visitors. However, reaching it is something of a chore since it requires that one drive across the bridge to Ford Island, and that means having a base pass to enter.
