I am intrigued by George Walters, the civilian yard worker who tried to defend the Pennsylvania by running his crane back and forth over her.  I find this an incredibly brave thing to do.  I know that there were many heroic acts done this day, but we don't hear much about acts of heroism by civilians during the attack.   Was Mr. Walters ever recognized for his bravery?  Do we know any of his subsequent history?

George Walters died in 1999 at the age of 95. He started work at PH in 1935, worked as a crane operator until 1950, retired from the shipyard as a supply technician in 1966. He got a 1/2-plane credit for literally 'knocking down' an attacking airplane. The other half credit went to Richard McCue aboard the PENSYLVANIA who shot down the plane with his .50 cal machine gun. McCue also shot down two other Jap planes.
