Hello, I am working on my Final for school, I am currently a sophmore in high school. I need to get this report done. One of the topics I need to cover is which vessels, or ships were not at pearl harbor while the bombing was going on? So which 3 boats/ships were not there? I need names please. All i found out was that USS Nevada made it out safe...
Thanks.

Hi, you're probably looking for the carriers, which were out of harbor at the time of the attack.

USS ENTERPRISE was 200 miles west of Hawaii, and heading back to port.

USS LEXINGTON was 400 miles west of Hawaii, and heading for Midway Island to deliver fighters.

USS SARATOGA was at San Diego, CA, having completed refitting at Seattle.

Here's a reference for you:

Note:  USS WASP had been assigned to the Pacific Fleet, but was transfered to the Atlantic Fleet, leaving more than a week before the attack.  Japanese spies in Panama reported her transit of the Canal on Dec. 1st.

I think the Nevada wanted to leave Pearl Harbor, but was bombed by the second wave of the Japanese planes.  So, it beached itself to prevent itself from sinking at the mouth of the harbor.
