Just a question. Has anyone ever located the spot HA-19 was beached on Waimanalo? I'll be in the area in February and would like to get some pictures.

The above are two pictures I'm hoping to use for a loose triangulation but if anyone knows of what street or area of Waimanalo/Bellows Field that the sub came to rest on it would be helpful.

Tracy,

I would suggest that perhaps David Aiken and John Divirgilio would be good people to talk to on this. Both have a great deal of experience with the attack as a whole, as well as a knowledge of the midget submarine portion of the atttack. I wouldn't swear to it, but I'd also be willing to bet that they have both been to the spot you are seeking.

Good luck!

I have taken pictures. It is easy to get the exact spot by lining up the islands in the 1941 photo. There is a sign with info in front of the club plus displays in the club. The beach is open to the public on weekends. I got permission to go there in a weekday from the Security Police. You need a military ID to get on the base unless it is a weekend and the beach is open to the public. The beach may be before the guard gate, don't remember. The place I'm talking about is Bellows AFB.

Tracy-
Did you ever get a location for the pictures you wanted? And how did they turn out?

All the times I have went to Hawaii, I have gone to this site to take photos. It is a public beach now. Hope you were able to make it there and line up the photos.

Regards!
Chris

Was not able to make it out; as I was getting married it was kinda hard to say "honey, we don't need a wedding license as much as pictures of the Ha-19 spot!"

That said, part of my "mission" was successful and my wife now has a thing for the hawaiian islands so we we'll be going back soon hopefully =)

Once I have something definate I will try and get in touch with everyone out there again about how to get there. That's also near where the Underwater Demolition Teams started so I have a big interest in Waimanalo!

Let's see what this does...
