The Washington Post (registration required) is reporting the death of
Charles F. Wheeler, the cinematographer for the Pearl Harbor-focused movie "Tora! Tora! Tora!"

"Charles F. Wheeler, 88, a cinematographer for a half-century who was nominated for Academy and Emmy Awards..."

"To make the Oscar-nominated "Tora! Tora! Tora!" (1970) - a collaboration between Japanese film-makers and 20th Century Fox ... Mr. Wheeler simultaneously directed five camera crews for each major scene."

"Mr. Wheeler was a Navy combat photographer during World War II and helped document the Japanese surrender aboard the battleship Missouri on Aug. 14, 1945. He was the camera operator on "Inherit the Wind" in 1960, "Judgement at Nuremberg" in 1961 and "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" in 1963."
