i picked up this book used and just started reading it.named.."AND I WAS THERE" by rear admiral edwin t. layton, u.s.n.r. (ret.) i looked on this post's but iam unable to find this book. iam just wondering how some of yourall that know a lot more than i do rate this book. it look's pretty good so far but no disrespect to the writer iam sure he's a fine man and has his reason's for it but iam taking it like he got a axe to grind toward's some people but he look's like he may got a good reason for it? just wondering how some of your expert's feel about it? and i hope i not messed up your board but i couldn't find this no where else...(sorry) :p

It does have an attitude towards it. I believe it was partially in response to John Toland's infamy and earlier revisionist works whose titles escape me at the moment.

sure do thank you tracy, everybody now will know how slow i read a book :D , 3 or 4 pages a night until i get sleepy..what i read so far is them poor guy's at pearl harbor was not getting there share of intelligence that they really should have gotten. i allway's believe everybody should serve there country but any way if you can save 1 life then everybody should help save it. i think my old buddy gen. george patton put it the best don't die for your country make the other dumb #%@## die for his country...old george's grandfather and a bunch of my kin folk was in the same company and unit in civil war 22nd virgina confederate (kanawha rifemen).. if i remember right without looking it back up.
