I was on Amazon.com the other day, and noted that they are planning to sell a hardcover, 2001 reprint of Morison's 15 volume History of United States Naval Operations in World War II for 贵.99

I have coveted this set for 20 years -- no kidding -- and it wasdue to be released in June but is not yet available.  (Vol. 15 is not on the market yet).  I have read at least 5 or 6 of the volumes cover to cover, and parts of the first 14.

This is a great, comprehensive work.  As with any work of this scope, there are bound to be mistakes, and some errors, but given the breadth of this work (every significant Naval Op in WWII) IMO the quality and accuracy of the work is astonishing.

The 3d (?) volume I believe covers PH and the Japanese offensive.   I thought some here might be interested.   I can't wait to own this s****er.

I got the reprint as well, scooping up 13 of the volumes when Coliseum Books had a big sale before it closed its doors at 57th Street and Broadway. I got the others on the web.

Yes, Morison wrote his books before the ULTRA revelations, and some of his material is erroneous, and he has a real hatred for Vice Adm. Frank Jack Fletcher (shared by many Marines), but most of the text and his writing style particularly, still stand up. They are great reading as history and writing.
